Utility integrations and nodes

Utility nodes cover single-purpose jobs that many workflows need: reading documents with AWS Textract, Mindee and Mistral AI OCR, transcribing and speaking with AssemblyAI, Deepgram and ElevenLabs, translating with DeepL and Google Translate, charting with QuickChart, and shortening links with Bitly and YOURLS. Form triggers for Form.io, Formstack and JotForm, and the RSS Feed Trigger, start a workflow when something new arrives.

Documents, audio, language and the odd job

Documents and images. AWS Textract extracts text, tables and form fields from documents, Mindee extracts structured data from receipts and invoices, and Mistral AI OCR returns page-level text from scanned PDFs and images. AWS Rekognition detects labels, faces and text in images.

Audio and video. AssemblyAI and Deepgram transcribe audio; AssemblyAI adds speaker labels and subtitle export. ElevenLabs generates and converts speech. HeyGen and Kling AI generate video, and OpenAI Image (DALL-E) generates and edits images.

Language and research. DeepL, Google Translate and LingvaNex translate text. Jina AI fetches a URL as clean markdown or searches the web, and Perplexity answers questions with web citations.

Everything else. QuickChart renders charts, Bitly and YOURLS shorten links, OpenWeatherMap returns forecasts, DHL tracks shipments, Onfleet runs delivery tasks, and Home Assistant and Philips Hue control a smart home.

Example workflows

  • Receipts into a CSV file. Mindee extracts the date, supplier and total from each receipt photo, Edit Fields keeps those three fields, and Convert to File exports the rows to a CSV file.
  • Translate a news feed. RSS Feed Trigger picks up a new article, Jina AI extracts its content as clean markdown, and DeepL detects the source language and translates it to Spanish.
  • Podcast to audio summary. Deepgram transcribes a podcast episode with punctuation and smart formatting, Claude Chat summarizes the transcript, and ElevenLabs reads the summary aloud in a chosen voice.

Nodes that START a workflow when something happens.

Form.io Trigger Receives webhook notifications from Form.io when form submissions are created or updated, outputting the submission payload. Webhook trigger Formstack Trigger Triggers a workflow when a Formstack form is submitted, receiving the full submission data including field values and types. Frequently asked questions

Which utility nodes can start a workflow?

Form.io Trigger, Formstack Trigger and JotForm Trigger fire when a form is submitted. RSS Feed Trigger polls a feed and runs when a new item is published. Pushcut Trigger runs when someone taps a server action in the Pushcut iOS app, and Venafi TLS Protect Datacenter Trigger polls for certificate expiry events.

Which utility nodes need no credential?

QuickChart, RSS Feed Trigger and OpenThesaurus run without one. Most of the others take an API key or an access token for their service. AWS Textract and AWS Rekognition use the same AWS credential as AWS S3 and AWS SNS, so one set of AWS keys serves all of them.

How do utility nodes combine with AI nodes?

Utility nodes often prepare input for a model or turn its output into something people use. Mistral AI OCR extracts the text from a scanned document, Claude Structured Output pulls the fields you need out of that text, and QuickChart renders the results as a chart image that can be attached to an email.
